Responsibilities:

  • Public Data Catalog Management: Maintain a public data catalog, managing updates for over 100+ active datasets, setting up new ETL scripts, and ensuring proper documentation.
  • Client Support: Assist clients in making their data publicly accessible, working with various agencies to keep datasets current and discoverable on centralized portals.
  • Metadata Curation: Cultivate dataset backstories and curate metadata that provides context for end-users of public data.
  • Data Visualization: Create dashboards, data visualizations, and content that demonstrate the value of public data, making it more understandable and accessible.
  • Technical Support: Provide technical support at regional events, helping users understand and utilize public data effectively.
  • Open Data Evangelism: Advocate for open data, helping organizations maximize its value through improved workflows, and maintaining process documentation as technologies evolve.
  • GIS Analysis (Optional): Support geospatial data transformation work and occasional GIS-related tasks.

Required Technical Experience:

  • Data Technologies: Expertise with SQL Server, PostGIS, small RDBMSs, Open Data Catalogs, and metadata.
  • Data Management & Cleaning: Proficient in metadata management, inventorying, and ETL pipelines.
  • Subject Matter Expertise: Deep knowledge of open data catalogs, obscure data discovery, and data integration.
  • Open Source Tools: Familiarity with Boundless, GDAL, Python, Pandas, REST Services, and data requests.
  • Programming Languages: Proficiency in SQL, Python, JavaScript, with experience in React, Neo4J, Leaflet, D3.
  • Geospatial Technology: Expertise in ArcGIS, QGIS, PostGIS, SHP, GDBs, CARTO, MapBox.
  • Web/DB Technologies: Knowledge of JavaScript, Python, Node.js, Oracle, SQL, and other popular programming languages.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., Data Management, Information Technology, Geography) with at least 5 years of experience in data analysis and management.
  • Experience: Strong foundation in data management principles, with experience in data analysis, modeling, and ETL.
  • Security: Must pass basic NACI, background, drug, and reference checks.
  • Location: U.S. Remote
  • Travel: Minimal to none.

Additional Requirements:

  • Expertise in ArcGIS: Familiarity with Portal for ArcGIS, ArcGIS Online, LDAP integration, and ArcGIS services.
  • Python Scripting: Proficient in Python (2.x and 3.x) for data management tasks.
