Your Role 

The Technical Development Manager is primarily responsible for connecting and aligning the technical function with company’s commercial goals and strategies. This involves engaging with the key producer partners, understanding their value proposition, and utilizing their solutions to penetrate new markets. This role works as a liaison between commercial and technical functions, and ensures that the two are aligned on key goals and strategies

Responsibilities 

Opportunity development

  • Work with sales reps on joint calls with prospects and customers to promote organic growth
  • Convert customer enquiries and discussions into active R&D projects with clear goals and potential revenue generating solutions  
  • Advise IMMs and confirm that they are targeting the right accounts for specific product and sub industry campaigns    

Technical support

  • Provide technical support to the food team in the technology areas assigned
  • Liaise with the key technical lead at the producer
  • Keep the team abreast on regulatory and labeling matters as needed 

Team training

  • Train sales team on how to engage with customer’s R&D and to provide functional solutions, instead of just selling commodity ingredients
  • Coordinate hands-on or remote supplier training sessions for the food team

Producer alignment

  • Support the industry managers on strategizing and engaging with the producers
  • Be the key technical liaison between the food team and the producers assigned
  • Keep the food team abreast of new products and technologies being developed by the producers   

Sub industry alignment

  • Keep an eye on the latest trends in the assigned sub industries (baking, beverage, etc.)
  • Use market research tools to track new product development and upcoming trends in your sub-industries  
  • Define gaps in our portfolio to address the unmet sub industry needs     

Project Facilitation

  • Serve as project facilitator / manager on special multifunctional projects, proactive campaigns, IFT/food show concept work, etc.  

Your Profile 

Skills 

  • Conducts all functions of business with safety as the top priority
  • Works with Management on organizational priorities, goals, and objectives
  • Participates in all periodic team meetings and communicates activities for action/follow-up/execution as necessary
  • Attends internal and external training sessions as necessary for continued development of product and industry knowledge  
  • Other duties as assigned

Education & Experience 

  • Minimum bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline
  • Well versed with current trends and key players in the food industry
  • 5-10 years’ experience with tech service and sales experience with a food manufacturer or a distribution company
  • Knowledgeable in technical applications and commercial aspects of hydrocolloids and other functional food ingredients
