Job Title
Head of Digital Transformation – Healthcare RCM
Position Overview
We are seeking a Head of Digital Transformation – Healthcare RCM to lead our enterprise-wide automation and integration strategy for revenue cycle management. This role will define and execute a vision for modernizing RCM processes across multiple EMRs, billing systems, clearinghouses, and payer platforms—owning the entire data lifecycle from acquisition to reintegration.
The ideal candidate combines deep knowledge of the payer–provider relationship, broad EMR workflow expertise, and strong technical acumen in automation, data integration, and interoperability standards. They must understand how to:
- Acquire data from clearinghouses, payers, and EMRs using methods such as SFTP, vendor APIs, FHIR APIs, RPA, and other secure channels.
- Process and prepare data — including validation, cleansing, transformation, enrichment, and routing for the next step in the workflow.
- Apply decisioning logic — sending data to a clearinghouse, payer, or an internal AI/ML model trained to make operational decisions.
- Reintegrate outputs back into the source or target systems via HL7, EDI, CSV upload, API, or RPA.
This is a high-visibility, client-facing leadership role. The person in this position will regularly engage with client Directors, Vice Presidents, and C-level executives to align transformation strategies with business priorities, present automation roadmaps, and deliver measurable results.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership & Vision
- Define the digital transformation roadmap for healthcare RCM, ensuring alignment with business objectives and client priorities.
- Identify high-value automation opportunities by combining process analysis with deep understanding of payer–provider workflows and EMR capabilities.
- Drive an end-to-end data strategy for automation:
- Data Ingestion: Select optimal acquisition method (SFTP, API, FHIR, RPA).
- Data Processing: Establish workflows for cleansing, standardization, and enrichment.
- Decisioning: Determine when to route to a clearinghouse, payer, or internal model.
- Reintegration: Ensure accurate, timely updates into EMRs/billing systems (HL7, EDI, CSV, API, RPA).
- Oversee evaluation and adoption of emerging technologies (AI/ML, APIs, RPA, advanced analytics) to accelerate automation maturity.
Operational Oversight
- Lead a multidisciplinary team, including:
- Healthcare EMR Workflow & Integration Architects
- Process Automation Architects
- Integration & RPA Engineers
- Ensure governance over automation and integration standards, testing, deployment, and ongoing monitoring.
Technology & Integration Strategy
- Direct integration strategies across HL7 messaging, ANSI X12 EDI transactions, FHIR APIs, custom/vendor APIs, and RPA.
- Architect scalable pipelines for data acquisition, processing, and reintegration that align with client and payer capabilities.
- Partner with clearinghouses and payers to leverage existing API access for faster time-to-value.
Client & Stakeholder Engagement
- Act as the primary executive-facing representative for digital transformation initiatives, engaging directly with client Directors, Vice Presidents, and C-level leaders.
- Lead high-impact client discussions that bridge technical automation strategies with business outcomes, ensuring alignment with client goals.
- Confidently present and defend solution architectures, integration plans, and ROI models to senior leadership.
- Build and maintain trusted relationships with provider and payer executives, positioning the company as a strategic partner.
- Collaborate with clients to align automation and integration projects with their operational realities, compliance requirements, and financial objectives.
- Partner with sales and account management teams to support executive briefings, roadmap reviews, and quarterly business reviews (QBRs).
Performance & Continuous Improvement
- Define KPIs for automation adoption, processing speed, decision accuracy, and financial impact.
- Implement continuous improvement loops to optimize data flow, reduce exceptions, and increase automation ROI.
- Promote knowledge sharing and technical excellence within the team.
Qualifications
Required:
- 10+ years in healthcare RCM operations, technology, or transformation leadership.
- Deep understanding of the payer–provider relationship, including contract structures, reimbursement methodologies, claims adjudication, and denial management.
- Proven expertise in data acquisition from clearinghouses, payers, and EMRs (SFTP, vendor APIs, FHIR APIs, RPA).
- Experience designing data processing workflows — validation, cleansing, transformation, enrichment, and routing.
- Familiarity with decisioning frameworks, including when to route to external partners vs. internal AI/ML models.
- Strong knowledge of system reintegration methods (HL7, EDI, CSV upload, API, RPA).
- Broad knowledge of EMR workflows (Epic, Cerner, Meditech, Athenahealth, ModMed, NextGen, etc.).
- Demonstrated success leading multi-disciplinary technical and operational teams.
- Proven ability to engage with and present to senior client stakeholders at the Director, VP, and C-suite level.
Preferred:
- Experience with payer and clearinghouse API ecosystems.
- Understanding of AI/ML applications in RCM automation.
- Familiarity with HIPAA, HITECH, and healthcare data security best practices.
Compensation
Salary Range: $180,000 – $300,000 per year, based on experience and qualifications.
Additional performance-based incentives and benefits package available.
