Job Summary

The Business Development Manager drives our expansion efforts in the North American market. The ideal candidate will play a pivotal role in identifying new business opportunities, developing strategic partnerships, enhancing existing client relationships, and significantly increasing our market share in the power applications sector. This role demands a strategic thinker who not only possesses a robust engineering background but also demonstrates a proven track record in sales and business development within the energy sector. The Business Development Manager will engage directly with customers as a subject matter expert on Mesa power solutions, offering innovative and tailored solutions to meet their daily challenges while ensuring the highest level of customer service across North America.

 

Essential Duties

  • Manage and nurture a portfolio of existing client accounts.

 

  • Proactively identify and pursue new business opportunities, in the North American market, with a focus on power applications and diversity fuels

 

  • Develop and implement innovative sales strategies that align with Mesa’s vision and customer needs.

 

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with channel partners, end users, rental companies and key stakeholders in industries such as oil and gas, mining, utilities, and manufacturing.

 

  • Conduct market analysis to identify trends, opportunities, and competitive threats, and develop strategies to capitalize on market dynamics.

 

  • Demonstrate exceptional product knowledge and understanding of the natural gas power generation industry to address customer inquiries effectively and support Mesa’s growth strategy.

 

  • Collaborate with the sales, technical, and operational teams to deliver superior customer service, ensuring that customer expectations are consistently met or exceeded.

 

  • Demonstrate the ability to effectively communicate the value proposition of Mesa's services, including parts, training, and consumables, tailoring solutions to customer-specific needs.

 

  • Utilize a consultative approach to identify customer challenges, educate them on Mesa's service offerings, and position these solutions as essential to operational efficiency and long-term success.

 

  • Identify opportunities to cross-sell services/products like training and consumables or upsell long-term maintenance contracts as part of comprehensive customer solutions.

 

  • Attend industry conferences, trade shows, and networking events.

 

  • Collaborate with marketing to create sales collateral, presentations, and proposals tailored to specific client needs.

 

  • Provide accurate sales forecasts, regular progress reports, and sales performance analysis to the management team.

 

  • Provide regular reports on sales activities, market trends, and competitor analysis.

 

  • Work closely with the Sales Director of Global Power Solutions to achieve sales targets, contribute to market expansion plans, and provide valuable insights for business growth.

 

  • Travel frequently within the region to meet with clients, partners, and attend industry events.

Related experience in business development or technical sales within power generation, energy services, or industrial equipment sectors, with a focus on natural gas and diesel generators, combined heat and power (CHP) systems, or distributed energy resources (DER) technologies.

10+ Years

Proven success selling packaged generator systems or turnkey power projects ranging from 450kW to 5MW, ideally in standby, prime, or cogeneration applications

7 Years

Experience in account management.

7 Years

Knowledge and experience with commercial issues relating to contracts and agreements.

10+ Years

Overall sales and customer service experience.

7 Years

Strong understanding of the North American market, with particular emphasis on the oil and gas, mining, utilities, and manufacturing industries.

Background in technical sales involving sizing, application engineering, or energy modeling is highly desirable

Familiarity with selling or managing long-term service contracts, warranty structures, or performance guarantee agreements.

Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and a driving record satisfactory to the company and its insurers.

  • Must be able to provide valid I-9 documentation to verify identity and employment eligibility, such as a U.S. passport, permanent resident card, or a combination of a state-issued ID and Social Security card or birth certificate.

 

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Ability to develop and expand a portfolio of clients by networking and marketing.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to translate market insights into actionable business strategies.
  • Ability to lead technical-commercial sales processes, including responding to RFPs, structuring performance-based service contracts, and presenting CAPEX/ROI justification.
  • Strong understanding of gas and diesel generator sets, including containerized solutions, emissions requirements, and integration with load management system.
  • Familiarity with cogeneration (CHP) applications, distributed energy resource (DER) integration, and customer-side energy efficiency projects.
  • Ability and desire to build long-term business relationships.
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Possess a positive and energetic self-starter attitude, with excellent drive, ambition, and work ethic.
  • Experience working with OEMs, packagers, and dealer networks to manage pricing strategies, channel conflict, and product lifecycle planning.
  • Work across operations, engineering, service, and logistics to develop and deliver complex power generation solutions.
  • Ability to exercise strong judgment in analyzing, appraising, evaluating, and solving complex problems.
  • Ability to quickly develop an understanding of highly technical content.
  • Critical thinker; organized and detail oriented.
  • Communication skills must be excellent both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work independently and ensure tasks are completed with little supervision.
