DescriptionLocation: Remote (New York–based luxury travel company)
Marchay, a leading luxury travel firm based in New York, is seeking a Staff Accountant to own our core accounting functions with a strong focus on commissions. This is a hands-on, detail-driven role that’s critical to keeping our financial operations accurate and organized. We’re looking for someone who can execute the fundamentals flawlessly today, with the potential to grow into a more strategic contributor over time.
In the short term, you’ll be responsible for maintaining clean, reconciled books in QuickBooks, managing commission payments and receivables, and ensuring we always have a clear picture of our P&L. Long term, the right hire could expand into budgeting, cash flow forecasting, KPI dashboard development, and full end-to-end P&L ownership — potentially evolving into a Controller-level role.
Key Responsibilities (Immediate Focus)
- Match commissions to payments and perform bank reconciliations
- Create internal reports on outstanding commissions (accounts receivable tracking)
- Chase down unpaid commissions from vendors (AR collections)
- Maintain and update the P&L in QuickBooks, ensuring accurate transaction categorization
- Assist with month-end close (basic accruals, reconciliations)
- Maintain organized records and documentation for audit-readiness
- Build SOPs, create and refine processes, and help manage accounting-related email workflows
What This Role Could Grow Into
- Own end-to-end P&L reporting and analysis
- Develop and maintain cash flow forecasts (e.g., 13-week rolling)
- Support budgeting and track actuals vs. budget
- Build internal KPI dashboards for leadership
- Handle expense analysis and cost optimization reporting
- Liaise with external accountants and audit firms during year-end processes
- Own vendor and contractor payment processes (AP)
- Oversee internal controls and implement process improvements
- Support financial scenario modeling and decision-making
- Potentially grow into a Controller-level position or partner closely with FP&A
Requirements - Bachelor's degree (or higher) is required.
- 1–3 years of accounting experience, ideally with QuickBooks Online
- Strong understanding of the three main financial statements (Income Statement, Statement of Cash Flows, Balance Sheet)
- Familiarity with payment processing systems and banking interfaces
- Ability to work independently in a remote setting
- Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail
- Experience with commissions, accounts receivable, or KPI reporting is a plus
- Interest in process improvement and building efficient workflows
