This is a unique opportunity to join a fast-scaling, high-growth technology company as its first in-house Legal Counsel. In this role, you will work closely with leadership to shape and expand the organization’s legal framework, supporting strategic growth while minimizing risk. You will provide practical, business-focused legal guidance on a wide range of matters, including commercial contracts, privacy compliance, AI regulation, corporate governance, intellectual property, and global expansion. The role demands a strong ability to navigate complex, cross-functional projects, advocate effectively with both customers and internal teams, and bring clarity to legal concepts in plain, actionable language. Accountabilities
- Draft, review, and negotiate diverse commercial agreements, including customer contracts, SaaS agreements, vendor contracts, and Order Forms, while enhancing standard terms of service.
- Lead compliance efforts for international privacy laws (GDPR, CCPA), including reviewing and negotiating Data Processing Agreements and advising on data protection issues.
- Partner with product teams to assess legal and compliance implications for new features, and with marketing teams to develop customer-facing compliance documentation.
- Collaborate with security teams to address security incidents and prepare related communications.
- Monitor and interpret evolving regulations, particularly regarding AI use in recruitment and global privacy laws, and translate them into actionable business steps.
- Manage a broad range of legal matters, from IP and employment issues to fundraising and international expansion.
- Build and deliver internal legal training, FAQs, and process improvements to proactively address risks.
- Oversee relationships with external counsel in commercial, corporate, privacy, and employment matters.
- Contribute to operational improvements and explore technology solutions to increase legal function efficiency.
Requirements - Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school with an active US law license.
- 6–8 years of combined top-tier law firm and in-house experience, preferably in a fast-growing startup.
- Strong expertise in privacy laws (GDPR, CCPA) with proven track record advising on compliance.
- Ability to independently manage diverse legal matters with sound judgment and clear prioritization.
- Excellent communication skills, translating complex legal advice into straightforward business guidance.
- Proactive, solutions-oriented mindset with the ability to influence and collaborate across teams.
- Comfortable with change, fast-paced environments, and a “roll-up-your-sleeves” approach.
- Bonus: Experience as an early legal hire in a SaaS or AI-focused company.
