About the Role
The Mississippi Department of Child Protection Services (MDCPS) is seeking a seasoned MIS Senior Application Support Developer to support ongoing modernization efforts of its legacy MACWIS (Mississippi Automated Child Welfare Information System) as it transitions to a modern, CCWIS-compliant platform.
This role is fully remote, though preference may be given to candidates with experience in state or federal child welfare systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain, troubleshoot, and enhance legacy Natural code in a production environment.
- Support data cleanup, deduplication, and data integrity initiatives using SQL and Natural.
- Assist in planning and scripting for data migration to the new CCWIS platform.
- Collaborate with data migration and testing (DMT) teams.
- Act as a subject matter expert (SME) for both legacy and modernized child welfare systems.
- Participate in cross-functional planning and technical meetings.
- Translate child welfare program requirements into technical solutions.
- Lead or mentor junior developers as needed.
Required Skills & Experience

2+ years – Natural Programming Language

5+ years – Visual Basic 6 (VB6)

5+ years – SQL (including scripting and data analysis)
- Experience with .NET Framework (C#, ASP.NET)
- Proven success maintaining and enhancing legacy systems
- Strong understanding of data integration, batch processing, and file-based interfaces
- Experience with data mapping, migration, and system conversions
- Familiarity with version control (Git, TFS, SVN)
- Experience in child welfare systems (SACWIS, MACWIS, CCWIS)
- Ability to develop technical documentation and participate in system design
- Strong problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a high-demand environment
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of ADABAS
- Experience in child welfare modernization projects
- Familiarity with federal CCWIS compliance standards
- Understanding of child welfare case management processes

- Excellent verbal and written communication
- Self-starter with a proactive approach
- Able to work independently or in collaborative environments
- Leadership experience in mentoring or leading technical teams
