NOTE: This position may be filled at the LA 2 or LA 3 level, depending upon qualifications. If incumbent enters at the LA 2 in-training level, the incumbent will advance to the next level after successfully completing the in-training plan.

LA 2 to a LA 3 is a 12-month in-training.
This Legal Assistant position provides senior-level legal support to Office of Investigative and Legal Services (OILS) staff attorneys and paralegals in providing disciplinary and professional legal services to the agency. This position is responsible for complex legal support for staff attorneys, case managers, and paralegals relating to the disciplinary process. This position provides legal assistance that supports critical legal services for high-priority, time sensitive cases involving patient harm. The Legal Assistant collaborates with case managers, investigators, the legal management team, staff attorneys, assistant attorneys general, compliance officers, legal assistant staff, and paralegals to effectively carry out disciplinary services.
At the Division of Health Quality Assurance (HSQA), we oversee Washington state’s healthcare delivery system, ensuring the highest standards of care. We support the agency and divisions mission by implementing the discipline procedures for health and health-related professionals and business as required under the Washington Uniform Disciplinary Act, RCW 18.130 (UDA).

Location and Flexibility: Enjoy the flexibility of our hybrid work environment, where you can balance working from home and collaborating in the office. It is anticipated that you’ll be expected to report onsite at the DOH facility located in Tumwater, WA, to meet business and operational needs two (2) days per week.
Required Qualifications

To enter at the Legal Assistant 2, In-Training level:
Option 1: High School diploma or equivalent and two (2) years of experience in a legal environment supporting an attorney, administrative law judge(s), industrial insurance appeals judge(s), review judge(s) or equivalent, such as general clerical, customer service, reception/administrative support, office management, operations, or forms and records management.
Option 2: One (1) year as a Legal Assistant 1.
Option 3: A two-year degree in Legal Secretary Studies, Paralegal Studies, or related field plus one (1) year of legal office experience or equivalent, such as general clerical, customer service, reception/administrative support, office management, operations, or forms and records management.
To enter at the Legal Assistant 3level:
Option 1: Four (4) years of experience in a legal environment supporting an attorney, administrative law judge(s), review judge(s) or equivalent, such as a judicial or quasi-judicial office(s).
Option 2: One (1) year as a Legal Assistant 2.
Option 3: A two-year degree in Legal Secretary Studies, Paralegal Studies, or related field of study plus two (2) years of legal office experience or equivalent, such as judicial and quasi-judicial office(s).
